Canadian artist Catherine Blackburn describes her work as something that emerges when words fall short—an intuitive release shaped by memory, emotion, and the subconscious. After more than 25 years as an interior designer, Blackburn transitioned fully into fine art, developing her signature “Crystallized Pastel” technique—an approach that brings extraordinary depth and radiance to her work. Bethany Richards, BRD Arts – Booth 319

Bethany Richards is a Santa Fe-based artist whose work blends vibrant color, emotional depth, and a sense of wonder inspired by the landscapes of Northern New Mexico. Raised on a ranch in West Texas, she developed an early connection to nature, creativity, and imagination – often found stargazing or exploring the open plains. Her formal training in art therapy at the College of Santa Fe deeply informs her artistic practice, which spans murals, mixed media on canvas, and her signature reverse glass paintings.

Artexpo New York returns for its 46th edition to Pier 36 in Manhattan’s trending Lower East Side. And speaking of trending, the artists and galleries selected for this year’s coveted Spotlight Program are definitely doing something unique and forward-looking.

Of course, Artexpo New York will once again have an interesting mix of exhibiting galleries, art publishers and dealers, and artists from across the globe, showcasing original work of 1000+ artists that includes prints, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, giclees, lithographs and glass works, among other contemporary and fine art.

This year’s Artexpo New York takes place from March 30-April 2, 2023 at Manhattan’s newest destination for art, Pier 36. Each year, the fair’s special programs range from immersive artist-led Art Lab experiences to compelling Art Talks and exciting Meet the Artist sessions.

Artur is a New York-based landscape photographer who works in a variety of styles. His work often incorporates symbolic elements and text to explore themes of identity, memory, and perception. Gelumbauskas’ work has been shown in galleries and art fairs throughout the United States and Europe, and he has received numerous awards and grants for his creative accomplishments. He sees his work as providing the viewer with a memory or an escape — whichever is the case for you, you’ll find the work amazing to enjoy.

D’Arcy Bellamy – Booth S101  

D’Arcy Bellamy is a sculptor from Idaho known for his modern style. His work frequently employs abstract forms and addresses themes of movement, balance, and tension. Bellamy says he is an object maker, creating abstract (often kinetic) sculpture from steel pipe in a subtractive method. Spirals, geometric patterns, the human form, plants and animals are all there to surprise and delight the viewer and engage the senses of sight, touch, and wonder. His imagination comes to life in each piece.

Galerie Minrath is a contemporary art gallery located in Cologne, Germany. The gallery focuses on exhibiting and promoting contemporary artists from Germany and around the world. For over two decades, gallery owner Jörg Minrath has been a modern painter creating sophisticated large and small-format paintings with elaborate techniques. He uses abstract motifs, unusual surface structures, and expressive colors to captivate and inspire viewers. In addition to Minrath’s work, the Galerie Minrath seeks to demonstrate the power and variety of young, modern contemporary art.

Jael Roznicki – Booth S701 

Jael Roznicki is an Alberta, Canada, abstract artist, currently residing in Edmonton.  She primarily works in oil paint on canvas as her medium.  Having experimented with acrylics, she landed on the texture and pliability of oil paint, mostly using palette knives and brushes and sometimes fingers, to achieve a variety of final effects and textures. Having a long history in creative expression, she was formally trained as a graphic designer, which enables her to envision in things spatially and in proportion. Using color theory and play on shapes and textures to evoke an emotion or to express an emotion is a key component of Roznicki’s work.

Lilac Gallery – Booth 701 

Lilac Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in New York City. Lilac Gallery was originally established in 1972 as Lilac Fine Art by Hungarian-born American artist Albert S. Nemethy who immigrated to the United States in 1950 and settled in New York’s  Hudson Valley. Lilac Gallery re-opened in Manhattan in 2012 with a mission to bridge Fine and Contemporary Art. Today the gallery’s vision is to present uplifting works of art into the art world and to bring them into the homes of our collectors seamlessly. The gallery is located in the historic center of Bellagio Italy, an area renowned by American and international elite art collectors. Dowling’s art odyssey began in the ’80s. While recovering from a devastating illness he spent time painting his photos on his laptop as art therapy. Dowling was and is a preeminent photojournalist and fine art photographer and has photographed countless celebrities, models, politicians, executives, wildlife, landscapes and nature, high-profile events, and life in general. What makes Dowling’s work so unique is his extensive use of layers that cause each viewer to have different perceptions of what they see. A unique technique of leading the viewer to have false affirmations of what they see, as well as challenging the human conscious mind to see what actually exists. What will you see?

Jeremiah Heller, Curator – End to End Gallery – Booth 104

End to End, E2E is a Graffiti & Street Art term that refers to a huge graffiti piece that covers a wall from one end to the other. On a subway train, it refers to a piece that covers the entire train, end to end. The street abbreviation is E2E.

This lexicon has been the inspiration behind End to End Gallery in our Downtown Hollywood Florida Showroom. We have curated an End to End space featuring a curated collection of modern and urban contemporary art from Jeremiah’s personal collection that truly embodies the meaning of the term and creates a unique viewing experience. Placing works from our personal collection allows the works to be viewed publicly and allows us to educate and share our passion for the works within the collection.

Gregory Bedford – Bedford Fine Art – Booth 237

Gregory Bedford’s wide sphere of life experiences fosters his creativity and design, all of which are major elements in his abstract paintings. This multi-talented artist began abstract collage painting during his breaks from acting. Painting provided Bedford with another outlet to release his creative energy, as well as to experience alternative methods for his creative process. His passion for the arts began as a ten-year-old. His introduction into stage and the arts came naturally: his father was an art teacher for 30 years. A method actor by trade, he becomes one with his work not only in the moment on stage or in film but also in his art studio.

Mikheil & George Mikaberidze – Mikheil & George Family Art – Booth S903

A father and son art team formerly from Tbilisi, Georgia, now reside and create their works in Brooklyn, New York. They have participated in various international exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and USA. The art exudes a sense of hidden depth in character masked by an almost childish playfulness in color and theme.

Erick Picardo – Picardo Colors – Booth S410

Picardo is a multidisciplinary Afro-Caribbean artist based in Michigan, whose work makes a statement about the mystic order of existence and its relationship to everyday life. Using a combination of oil and acrylic, Picardo portrays figures using color to entrance viewers, drawing them into a world of music and dance. He envisions his paintings serving as a reminder of all that humanity is capable of being, inspiring viewers to strive toward a better self and better world.

Q: Introduce yourself — who you are and what you do?

A. Julia Ross, Director of Art Gallery Pure.  I am an American abstract impressionistic painter. Inspired by meditation and nature, I use mixed media to transpose the aura of meditation to artwork and inspire a calm strength in the viewer.  Layer upon layer of paint reveals an  impressionistic view of seascapes and landscapes.  The artwork brings the viewer to a peaceful moment in time, possibly fused with the past to translate a peaceful experience.

Q. What is your background?

A. Introduced to painting by my artist mother, with a family of poets, writers and musicians, my fondest memories involve days spent enjoying creative elements.  I began painting as a young age and continued throughout childhood and teen years, which expanded to majoring in Fine Arts at The University of Texas.  I ultimately pursued a professional career in advertising, to build digital brands online, continuing to feed my creative passion as an artist in multimedia, painting and sculpting.  

In 2018, I opened Art Gallery Pure, LLC to represent emerging to experienced contemporary artists and provide an avenue to give back.  10% of art gallery margin benefits charity.  In 2019, the company extended current efforts of promoting talented artists, opening Art Gallery Inc, to provide a platform to feature women artists and their contemporary works. The art sales continue the founding company mission to give back to charity.

Q. How do you work?

A. Everything is connected.  From meditation to artwork, artists, art industry professionals and art collectors, I strive to extend positive energy via the creative universe.  Art Gallery Pure works with artists who exude positive energy and we network with others in the art business who provide the same. Good energy is contagious.  The aura of that energy extends to the canvas, which ultimately ends up in the environment of the art collector.  

Q. What art do you most identify with?

A. As an artist, I personally identify with the Impressionists.  As a gallerist, contemporary works from abstracts to figurative, oil, mixed media to collage inspire me. As an artist myself, I enjoy watching artists grow personally from emerging to Internationally collected professional artists.

Q. What artist(s) inspires you?

A. “At the Art Basel fairs (Basel, Miami, and Hong Kong), women made up less than a quarter of the artists on view over the past four years.” National Museum of Women in the Arts

Just 24% of the 27,000 artists shown at art fairs in 2018 were women. Art fair sales that year totaled $16.5 billion. The Global Art Market Report 2019 (Art Basel/UBS).

Only 29% of the winners of the Turner Prize, one of the best-known visual art awards, have been women—though several women have won over the past decade. In 2017, Lubaina Himid became the first woman of color to win. Tate list of Turner Prize winners.

I believe we know of only a fraction of the work by talented women artists.  Ninth Street Women by Mary Gabriel is educating us of the struggles and path of Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art.  They all inspire me to help other women artists grow their careers.

Q. What is the best advice you’ve received?

A. Listen to your angels.  Trust yourself.  Paint what brings you peace.  Find artists who do the same.  Your business will grow with the energy you extend to the universe.

Early in my art career which evolved from marketing, I began applying my knowledge of obvious supply and demand.  I assumed we needed to find what collectors were buying, place it on the walls of the gallery, and they would buy… right?  I quickly learned there are buyers for every work and just because something was not selling did not necessarily make it less valuable.  

The value resides in the energy of the artist which extends to build value of the work to the art collector. 

Q. When you are not working, where can we find you?

A. We enjoy as many days on this earth as possible around water.  Travel has provided experiences to meet others and gain new perspectives on life.

Dwight Baird has been painting for over 35 years, evolving from watercolors to acrylics. Vlad Korol’s passion for photography and image development began in 1979, when his father presented him with a Smena–8 camera. His focus in recent decades has been to capture the natural world in bloom. Through his first multi-part collection, “Flora Criogenica,” Korol exposes hues and tones never before produced as a result of unique development techniques. He continues to refine his process of cryogenically freezing subjects in order to expose and control pure color and form, while allowing this personally constructed palette to evolve through new visual applications and concepts.

At nine years old, Diane Fontaine created her first oil painting and began to invent her own characters. After working as an illustrator and exploring different mediums, she eventually discovered a passion for acrylic and began to concentrate her efforts on mixed-media techniques. In her work, Fontaine explores emotions, depth, and movement through shadow, contrast, and extreme light, achieving a balance that is at once exuberant and introspective.
